How to Transfer Chats from Official WhatsApp to GB WhatsApp Pro

Switching from the official WhatsApp to GB WhatsApp Pro is straightforward because both apps store chats in compatible database formats. The transfer takes about 10 minutes total and keeps every chat, group, and media file intact.

6-step walkthrough

  1. Take a fresh backup in the official WhatsApp

    Open official WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat Backup → "Back Up" → wait for completion. Note: this creates a local backup (the Google Drive backup will not be used).

  2. Locate the WhatsApp backup folder

    Using a file manager, navigate to /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Databases/ — the most recent file (msgstore.db.crypt15) is your backup. Also note the /WhatsApp/Media/ folder.

  3. Rename the folder for GB WhatsApp Pro to find it

    Copy (or rename) the entire /WhatsApp folder to /GBWhatsApp/. Result: /storage/emulated/0/GBWhatsApp/Databases/msgstore.db.crypt15 and /GBWhatsApp/Media/. GB WhatsApp Pro looks for backups in this location.

  4. Install GB WhatsApp Pro from this site

    Download the GB WhatsApp Pro APK and install it. Do not open it yet — the file system needs to be in the right state before first launch.

  5. Open GB WhatsApp Pro and verify your number

    Launch GB WhatsApp Pro, enter the same phone number as your official WhatsApp, complete SMS verification.

  6. Tap "Restore" when prompted

    GB WhatsApp Pro detects the renamed backup folder and offers to restore. Tap "Restore" — your conversations, groups, and media migrate over in 2–5 minutes.

Warning: Sign out of the official WhatsApp before opening GB WhatsApp Pro with the same number. You cannot run both apps with the same number simultaneously — Meta will pick the most recently verified.
Tip: If you want to keep both apps running, use a second phone number on GB WhatsApp Pro instead of transferring chats.

No, the transfer copies the folder — your original /WhatsApp data stays in place. You can keep or delete it after the transfer succeeds.

Will Google Drive backups work after switching?

No. GB WhatsApp Pro does not sync to Google Drive (that integration is reserved for Meta's official client). After switching, your backups are local-only — use the export-chat feature for cloud safety on critical conversations.
